Privacy Policy

Tamada ("we", "us") is a personal DJ app that turns a short description of your moment into a playlist, played through your own Spotify account. This policy explains what information Tamada collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. It covers both the Tamada app and the mytamada.com website.

We've tried to keep this readable. If anything is unclear, email us at contact@mytamada.com and we'll explain.

The short version

Tamada works from what you tell it you want right now — not from a picture of your listening built up in the background.
Tamada does not sell your data, show you ads, or share your data with advertisers. Ever.
Tamada plays music through your Spotify account. We never see your Spotify password.
Most of what Tamada touches (your Spotify session) stays in your browser and is gone when you close the tab.
To avoid repeating songs you've heard recently, Tamada keeps a rolling record of what it played for you in the last 7 days. Older entries are deleted automatically.
You can disconnect Tamada from your Spotify account at any time, and you can ask us to delete everything we hold about you.

1. Information we collect

Your Spotify account

When you connect Spotify, you approve Tamada through Spotify's own login page. Spotify then shares with us:

Your basic profile: display name, email address, country, and subscription tier (Tamada needs to check you have Spotify Premium, which is required for playback).
Permission to control playback (play, pause, skip) and to create playlists on your account.

We never see or store your Spotify password. The connection uses temporary access tokens that are kept only in your browser for the current session and are discarded when you close the tab.

What you type into Tamada

The descriptions you give — the moment, the vibe, energy, duration — are sent to our servers to generate your playlist. These are used only to build that playlist and are not linked to a profile of you.

Recent plays (7-day memory)

So your next session doesn't repeat what you just heard, Tamada records the tracks it actually played for you — the song, the artist, and when it played, and nothing else. This is stored on our servers, linked to your account, and automatically deleted after 7 days. The deletion is built into how the data is stored, rather than being a clean-up job someone has to remember to run.

This record is only ever used to rule tracks out — to keep recent songs from turning up again in your next playlist. It isn't used to work out what you like, and it doesn't shape what you get offered.

Email address (mytamada.com)

If you sign up for updates on our landing page, we store the email address you give us with our email provider (Mailchimp) and use it only to send you Tamada news. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.

Technical basics

Like almost every website, our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and request time) for security and reliability. We don't use these to profile you. Tamada does not use advertising trackers.

2. What Tamada doesn't do

Most music apps work by watching what you listen to and building up a picture of your taste over time. Tamada is built the other way round: it works from what you tell it you want in the moment.

That's a product decision as much as a privacy one, and it's worth stating plainly. As Tamada works today:

We don't build a profile of your taste. There's no model of "what you like" accumulating in the background.
Your listening history doesn't decide what you hear. The only thing we do with your recent plays is take them out of the running, so a new session doesn't repeat the last one.
We don't track what you skip, and we don't use your behaviour to steer future playlists.
We don't sell your data, show ads, or share anything with advertisers.

If we ever want to change any of this — for example, to offer a feature that remembers what "mellow" means to you — we'll update this page and tell active users before it takes effect.

3. How we use your information

To make playlists: your descriptions are used to generate a playlist that fits your moment, and your recent plays are used to keep it from repeating what you just heard.
To play music: your Spotify connection is used to verify tracks and control playback on your Premium account.
To improve Tamada: we measure how well the engine itself is doing — for example, how often it picks a track that turns out to be unavailable, or how long a playlist takes to start. These measurements are recorded without your account identifier attached, so they tell us about Tamada, not about you.
To contact you: only if you signed up for updates, and only about Tamada.

We do not sell personal information, share it with advertisers, or use it for any purpose beyond running and improving Tamada.

4. The services Tamada relies on

Tamada is built on a small number of service providers, which process data only on our behalf:

Tamada uses the Spotify platform but is not endorsed, certified, or otherwise approved by Spotify. Spotify is the trademark of Spotify AB.

5. How long we keep things

Spotify session tokens: your browser only; gone when you close the tab.
Playlist requests (your typed descriptions): used to generate the playlist, not retained as a profile.
Recent plays (7-day memory): rolling window; entries older than 7 days are deleted automatically.
Engine quality measurements: kept without your account identifier attached, so they aren't linked to you.
Email address: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.

6. Your choices and rights

Disconnect Tamada from Spotify at any time at spotify.com/account/apps — this immediately revokes Tamada's access to your account.
Delete your data: email contact@mytamada.com and we'll delete your recent-play record and any other data we hold about you.
Access your data: email us and we'll tell you exactly what we hold.
Unsubscribe from emails via the link in any email, or by writing to us.

Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/UK under GDPR), you may have additional legal rights to access, correct, delete, or object to processing of your data. We honour these requests regardless of where you live — just email us.

7. Children

Tamada is not directed at children and requires a Spotify Premium account. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has used Tamada, contact us and we'll delete their data.

8. Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. For significant changes — a new kind of data, or any feature that builds a lasting picture of you — we'll tell active users directly before the change takes effect.
